Stormers join race for Vermeulen’s signature

Cape Town - The Stormers are the latest team being linked to Springbok No 8 Duane Vermeulen.

Vermeulen last week signed a deal with Japanese club Kubota Spears, but it’s uncertain where he will head after the 2018 Japanese season ends in December this year.

Vermeulen will join the Kubota Spears after his contract with French club Toulon recently came to an end.

Recent reports linked him with moves to Bath in England, while the Bulls are reportedly also interested.

Afrikaans website Netwerk24 reported on Wednesday that Vermeulen’s former team, the Stormers, are now also interested in luring him back.

A move to the Stormers could make sense for Vermeulen as it would mean he is closer to home - the burly No 8 owns a house in Durbanville, not far from the team’s training base in Bellville.

Vermeulen represented the Springboks in their Test series against England this month, but indicated that he would not be available for the upcoming Rugby Championship.
