Gallagher qualified fifth fastest overall with the 50m freestyle final scheduled for Saturday, April 7 (11:43 SA time).

Meanwhile, in the women's 50m breaststroke final, Tatjana Schoenmaker broke the African record - which she had set herself - in the heats.

Schoenmaker finished in fourth place, touching the wall in a time of 30.82, missing the bronze medal by 0.04 of a second.

On Saturday, Schoenmaker will feature in the women's 200m breaststroke heat (02:49 SA time) and possibly the final (13:09 SA time).
