AmaZulu FC centre-back Tapelo Xoki caught up with Soccer Laduma to share his football journey, the reason why he changed his surname, and some of his greatest fears.

Born in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, the 25-year-old had always been supported by his parents to pursue his dream of becoming a professional footballer and he even halted his studies to attend trails.

The trail that changed the course of his life happened at AmaZulu. After playing for the Old Mutual Academy in the Mother City, he was invited to the Durban-based club and after impressing the coaching staff, he signed his first professional contract in 2014.

Once he moved to Usuthu, he revealed the first thing he did with his first paycheck.

Now one of the seniors in the squad, the tall defender also revealed the one SuperSport United striker he finds hard to deal with, the difficulties of being a professional footballer and the responsibilities you suddenly are required to carry and more.

During this interesting exclusive, Xoki also said…

  • "I would give my mom a lot of trouble…"
  • "Managing the finances…"
  • "The difficulties are there…"
  • "Lockdown has not been an easy time for us..."
