Thanks for joining Sport24 for the duration of the Rugby World Cup!

31 Oct 19:51

The Wallabies did extremely well to come back into it. They were dead and buried at 21-3 but two tries while Ben Smith was off the field, closed the gap right up.

However, the All Blacks were not to be denied. Dan Carter was sublime tonight for the champions.

31 Oct 19:49

New Zealand are the World Champions! They are also the first team to win back-to-back Rugby World Cups!

New Zealand 34 Australia 17

New Zealand 27 Australia 17

31 Oct 19:37

69' - DROP GOAL by Carter!

Out of nothing, Carter snaps a drop goal from around 40m! How crucial will that prove?

New Zealand 24 Australia 17

31 Oct 19:36
68'- Carter tries a kick into space, but Beale reads it brilliantly and take a mark.
31 Oct 19:35
68' - The Wallabies lose their own lineout throw again, gifting the All Blacks the ball around 30m from the Wallaby line.
31 Oct 19:32
65' - Richie McCaw is penalised at ruck time. The Wallabies have a chance to get straight back onto the attack. The momentum of this game has shifted for sure.
31 Oct 19:31
64' - Ben Smith is back on the field after his time in the bin!  How crucial will his sin-binning be in the outcome of this match?
31 Oct 19:31

63' - TRY to the Wallabies!

Another one! Brilliant play by Genia as he saw some space in behind the All Black defence. Ashley-Cooper collects and offloads to Kuridrani to get over. Foley converts.

New Zealand 21 Australia 17

31 Oct 19:28
60' - Excellent work by Mumm as he has managed to get his hands on the ball and stopped the All Blacks from freeing it up from the maul. Turnover. The Wallabies have a defensive scrum in their own 22m area.
31 Oct 19:26
59' - Penalty to the All Blacks as the Wallabies are penalised at ruck time. Carter finds touch this time inside the Wallaby 22m area.
31 Oct 19:26

58' - Wallaby substitution.

Sio is replaced by Slipper.

Kepu is replaced by Holmes

31 Oct 19:24

58' - All Black substitution

Moody is replacedy by Franks

31 Oct 19:23
57' - The Wallabies are penalised for not releasing as Whitelock was all over the ball. Carter misses touch from the resulting penalty... you don't see that often.
31 Oct 19:22
56' - That try has revitalized the Wallabies as they surge into the All Black 22m area.
31 Oct 19:20

55' - Wallaby substitution

Moore is replaced by Polota-Nau.

31 Oct 19:18

52' - TRY to the Wallabies!

Pocock is the scorer! The Wallabies have done brilliantly to maul that over the line. Foley converts!

The lead is now only 11.

31 Oct 19:17

52' - Foley sets up a lineout for the Wallabies.

They need to score here.

31 Oct 19:17

52' - YELLOW CARD to Ben Smith!

He will spend 10 mins in the bin!

31 Oct 19:17

51' - The linesman has his flag out. They are going upstairs to check some foul play by the All Blacks. They are checking a tackle by Ben Smith. It looks like a tip tackle.

31 Oct 19:14
49' - Unbelievable scrum from the All Blacks as they destroy the Wallabies. They break right only for Beale to take an intercept and break upfield. The Wallabies win a penalty at the ruck once Beale was caught. Foley sets up a lineout in the All Black 22m area.
31 Oct 19:12
48' - Finally some cut and thrust from the Wallabies as Mitchell breaks the line. He is brought to ground and Wallabies are awarded a scrum.
31 Oct 19:10
46' - The All Blacks surge ahead into the Wallaby half but then lose the ball foward. Read the culprit, but an excellent tackle by Mumm
31 Oct 19:09
44' - Mitchell does brilliantly to take a high ball, but Williams knocks the ball out of his hands. Ruled as a Wallaby knock-on. The All Blacks have a scrum just inside the Wallaby half.
31 Oct 19:07

41' - TRY to the All Blacks!

Wow! Nonu has cut the Wallaby defence to shreds as he breaks and goes over from 35m out after receiving the ball from replacement, Sonny Bill Williams. Carter cannot convert.

That is not what the Wallabies wanted.

New Zealand 21 Australia 3

31 Oct 19:04
40' - Carter gets the second-half underway. The Wallabies need an early score one would think.
31 Oct 18:51

That try might be crucial folks. So typical of the All Blacks, getting an important score just before the break!

They have been the better side. The Wallabies have made over 70 tackles to the 30 of the All Blacks.

New Zealand 16 Australia 3

31 Oct 18:48

39' - TRY to the All Blacks!

Milner-Skudder is over in the right-hand corner after the All Blacks works some space on the right. Smith and McCaw working some space to set the diminutive winger free. Carter converts from the touchline.

New Zealand 16 Australia 3

31 Oct 18:46
38' - The All Blacks looking very dangerous before half-time as they surge into the Wallaby 22m area.
31 Oct 18:44
37' - The All Blacks control the Wallaby kick-off and surge upfield with some brilliant handling between backs and forwards. Carter then kicks down on Folau, but it is a little too far allowing the Wallaby fullback to clear to halfway.
31 Oct 18:43

35' - PENALTY slotted by Carter!

He extends the All Blacks lead to six points.

New Zealand 9 Australia 3

31 Oct 18:42

34' - Genia is penalised for offside. Carter will have a shot at goal from the right-hand touchline.

There was a massive forward pass in the build up play. Missed by Owens.

31 Oct 18:40
32' - Another steal by the All Blacks! They move the ball out to the right, Milner-Skudder kicks ahead but Folau collects and calls a mark.
31 Oct 18:39
30' - The Wallabies are awarded a penalty as the All Blacks are penalised for interfering with Genia. Foley sets up a lineout around 35m from the All Black line.
31 Oct 18:36
29' - Still cagey from both sides. The All Blacks have a lineout on half-way.
31 Oct 18:34

27' - Australia substitution

Giteau is replaced by Beale

  • 80'

CONVERSION, NEW ZEALAND, CARTER. 34-17. A simple two before New Zealand play out the final seconds. A first World Cup on foreign soil. What a team this has been.

  • 80'

    New Zealand 34 Australia 17

  • 79'

TRY, NEW ZEALAND, BARRETT. 32-17. It's done. New Zealand will win back-to-back World Cup titles as Mitchell's spillage is gathered by Ben Smith who runs before kicking ahead for Barrett who calmly finishes.

  • 76'

20 metres out. Australia desperately need a try here.

  • 75'

PENALTY, NEW ZEALAND, CARTER. 27-17. He can do no wrong. A scrum penalty on halfway and up steps Carter to knock it over. Is that game over? Australia will say no chance as they attack from the restart.

  • 72'

It's a New Zealand scrum on halfway with the All Blacks having sent on Tawera Kerr-Barlow while Australia have Nick Phipps on at the base themselves.

  • 70'

DROP-GOAL, NEW ZEALAND, CARTER. 24-17. Superb from Beale as he raced across his 22 to call a mark from Carter's smart kick. That looked to have got Australia out of their 22 but then Carter stepped back to slot a long-range drop-goal. What a strike.

  • 66'

Matt Toomua replaces Mitchell in what looks like a temporary change. Australia ball 40 metres out. What a game.

  • 65'

CONVERSION, AUSTRALIA, FOLEY. 21-17. Four points in it in this World Cup final. Smith is now back on while Milner-Skudder is replaced by Beauden Barrett.

  • 64'

TRY, AUSTRALIA, KURIDRANI. 21-15. Another change to mention is Slipper on for Sio as Australia get out of their 22 via the boot of Mitchell. Cue an open passage before Genia's box kick is collected by Foley who sets up Tevita Kuridrani for a huge try.

  • 61'

The storm appears to have been weathered for New Zealand as Ashley-Cooper is penalised at a ruck, which allows Carter to kick up to the Australian 22. Ben McCalman replaces Fardy before the line-out.

  • 58'

Retallick's reach is the difference as after sustained pressure in the New Zealand 22, he wins a relieving breakdown penalty for his side. Carter clears but doesn't find touch.

  • 56'

Captain Moore is replaced meanwhile for Australia, with Tatafu Polota-Nau on in his place. Australian ball again, this time 35 metres out as they now look full of confidence.

  • 55'

CONVERSION, AUSTRALIA, FOLEY. 21-10. A key two points from wide out. Charlie Faumuina is on for Franks by the way for New Zealand.

  • 53'

TRY, AUSTRALIA, POCOCK. 21-8. Game on at Twickenham. Pocock at the tail of a maul. We've seen that plenty of times before.

  • 52'

YELLOW CARD, NEW ZEALAND, B SMITH. Ben Smith is off for ten minutes after lifting the legs of Mitchell there. Australia don't hang around as they throw in five out.

  • 51'

Unbelievable stuff. New Zealand dominate the scrum before Milner-Skudder sets off down the line. But just as it looked good for New Zealand, Beale broke down the left wing. It results in Australia throwing in 20 metres out. Now, is this their moment?

  • 49'

There's a catalyst for Australia as Mitchell breaks up to halfway and while he is turned over, the ensuing ruck leads to Owens blowing for a Wallaby scrum.

  • 48'

New Zealand look so confident and comfortable in this environment while Australia seem to have gone into their shell. It's Genia to put in on his own ten-metre.

  • 45'

Carter misses the conversion. So, 18 points for Australia to find. It's a big ask as they look off the pace here. New Zealand scrum on halfway.

  • 42'

TRY, NEW ZEALAND, NONU. 21-3. Brilliant. SBW's impact is immediate as his offloads lead to Nonu finding a hole and then pinning his ears back from 35 metres out. What a try on his final All Black outing.

  • 41'

Welcome back. A change to mention here as Sonny Bill Williams is on for Conrad Smith. Australian ball close to halfway.

  • 40'

CONVERSION, NEW ZEALAND, CARTER. 16-3. Excellent kick from the touchline and that's half-time. New Zealand's 40 minutes for sure. How will Australia respond?

  • 40'

    New Zealand 16 Australia 3

  • 39'

TRY, NEW ZEALAND, MILNER-SKUDDER. 14-3. New Zealand are looking comfortable here with ball in hand as they march up to the Australian 22. Here's Milner-Skudder before Kaino carries on the charge. A score here would be huge and they have it as Aaron Smith and McCaw set up the right wing to dive over. Lovely try.

  • 36'

PENALTY, NEW ZEALAND, CARTER. 9-3. Wonderful kick from the touchline as Genia is caught offside. The lead is nine.

  • 34'

But the line-out is overthrown and after a bit of action play will restart with a New Zealand line-out. Great tackle from Nonu to force Beale into touch - if he hadn't then the replacement might have gone in from 60 metres.

  • 32'

That is a soft penalty to give away by Moody as he doesn't roll away from the ruck, which allows Foley to kick to within 30 metres of New Zealand's line.

  • 30'

It is permanent so that's a blow for Australia, who clear to halfway ahead of Coles throwing in the line-out.

  • 27'

PENALTY, NEW ZEALAND, CARTER. 6-3. Kepu now tackles Carter high which hands the fly-half a shot to retake the lead from wide out. He makes no mistake and a further blow to Australia is the sight of Giteau going off for a HIA after being knocked out in a tackle. Kurtley Beale replaces him but for how long?

  • 25'

Nothing comes of that though as Simmons uses an All Black as leverage at the line-out so New Zealand are back in possession 30 metres from Australia's line.

  • 23'

Better than repelled for Australia as Fardy wins a breakdown penalty 30 metres from his own line. Giteau is the man clearing into New Zealand territory.

  • 22'

TMO Shaun Veldsman intervenes which leads to Kepu being penalised for a late hit on Carter. New Zealand again go for the corner but are repelled for now.

  • 19'

Wow. What a play from Pocock. New Zealand had a kickable penalty five metres out but Aaron Smith chose to tap and go before Pocock pounced at the breakdown. Massive moment as Foley clears out of his 22.

  • 18'

New Zealand ball on halfway as Coles throws in. Australia have contained Savea well so far but they could be three points down again here as Moore is penalised for not rolling away. No, Carter kicks to the corner. Statement of intent from the All Blacks.

  • 15'

Wonderful defensive work from Pocock as he gets hold of Savea before New Zealand knock-on 15 out. Bit of delay here now as Kane Douglas is hobbling off with a knee injury. On comes Dean Mumm.

  • 14'

PENALTY, AUSTRALIA, FOLEY. 3-3. It's all tied up at Twickenham as Foley slots a relatively simple three points after Owen Franks was pinged at scrum time for an illegal bind.

  • 13'

Aaron Smith tries to catch Australia napping as he boxes from that line-out, but the ball goes out on the full. Oh dear, now Ben Smith fumbles the Wallabies' clearing kick. Australia scrum on New Zealand's 22.

  • 11'

Two minutes of kicking from the two finalists as the battle for territory continues. New Zealand have won that scrap as Foley kicks one out under pressure just 30 metres from his own try-line.

  • 8'

PENALTY, NEW ZEALAND, CARTER. 3-0. Hands on the ground from David Pocock gifts Dan Carter his first shot at goal. It's from the left side and he makes no mistake. New Zealand lead.

  • 5'

It's wasted by the All Blacks as a poor grubber through is gathered up by Drew Mitchell before Foley clears soon after. New Zealand line-out 30 out.

  • 4'

A spillage from Genia now hands New Zealand a good opportunity just fifteen metres out. Aaron Smith to feed the scrum.

  • 2'

Good work from his lock partner Brodie Retallick as he charges down Will Genia's attempted box kick. It is New Zealand ball now as Nonu charges into the 22.

  • 1'

The 2015 Rugby World Cup Final is underway. Nigel Owens blows the whistle and Bernard Foley sends the ball down to Sam Whitelock.

  • 0'

And here comes the haka, led again by Keven Mealamu.

  • 0'

Of New Zealand's 18 opponents faced at the Rugby World Cup, they have a losing track record against only two of them, Australia and South Africa.

  • 0'

The All Blacks have won one and lost two matches against Australia in previous World Cup matches.

  • 0'

New Zealand have stuck with the same 23 that beat the Springboks, which means no place for Wyatt Crockett and a starting spot for prop Joe Moody.

  • 0'

Australia have made one change to their starting line-up as Scott Sio recovers from injury and has taken over from James Slipper at loosehead prop.

  • 0'

The last time these sides met at the World Cup, New Zealand won 20-6. That was during the 2011 semi-finals at Eden Park in Auckland.

  • 0'

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the 2015 Rugby World Cup final. Will it be New Zealand or Australia holding the Webb Ellis trophy aloft after this mouth-watering contest? It's a repeat of the recent Rugby Championship decider and on that day Australia were the victors, but New Zealand were missing key man Ma'a Nonu. Steve Hansen's side are looking for back-to-back World Cup wins which would be the first time any nation has achieved that feat. Team news is coming up with kick-off at 4pm GMT.

  • 0'

The teams are out and ready for the respective anthems. Fireworks, a fly-over from the Red Arrows and a lot of excitement at Twickenham. Not long now.
