Anderson opens ATP Finals campaign against Austrian

Cape Town - South Africa’s Kevin Anderson will face Austria’s Dominic Thiem in his opening match of the ATP Finals in London on Sunday.

Anderson, who is making his debut at the prestigious year-end event, was drawn in the Group Lleyton Hewitt alongside Thiem, Switzerland’s Roger Federer and Japan’s Kei Nishikori.

Anderson and Thiem will play the first singles match on Sunday afternoon, with Federer and Nishikori scheduled to play in the evening session.

World No 6 Anderson boasts a 6-2 win-loss record against world No 8 Thiem, but the Austrian has won their last two meetings.

Meanwhile, world No 1 Novak Djokovic leads the Group Guga Kuerten alongside Germany’s Alexander Zverev, Croatia’s Marin Cilic and America’s John Isner.

Zverev will face Cilic in Monday’s afternoon session, while Djokovic tackles Isner in the evening session.

South Africa also has a representative in the doubles, with Raven Klaasen and his New Zealand partner Michael Venus the sixth seeds and they will opening their campaign on Sunday against the fourth-seeded pair of Great Britain's Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares of Brazil.
