Pietermaritzburg - Following Roger De Sa’s appointment as new head coach of Maritzburg United, the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit outlined three mandates for the former Ajax Cape Town mentor.
The Team of Choice on Wednesday signed the 52-year-old tactician on a six-month contract - with an option to renew by a further two years.
Da Sa, who guided Orlando Pirates to the final of the 2013 CAF Champions League, has been mandated with reaching the final of the upcoming Nedbank Cup and also guiding the Team of Choice to a top 8 finish in the Absa Premiership.
De Sa will also be tasked to promote a few young stars from their youth academy by the end of the current campaign.
“The biggest (goal) for him is to set opportunities within the development structures,” club spokesperson Brian Zuma told Sport24 on Thursday.
“He is also tasked to ensure that the team finishes within the top eight in the league at the end of this season.
“There’s only one cup competition left this season and that’s the Nedbank Cup and we want to avoid early elimination. We want to go as far as possible in the competition.
“Though he is not tasked to win the tournament, he must at least attempt to reach the final.”
The rejuvenated United currently occupy eighth spot on the PSL table after 15 rounds.
