Sundowns, who were recently crowned Absa Premiership champions, were ahead as early as the third minute thanks to an own goal by Wydad's Ibrahim Comara.
Ismail El Haddad levelled matters for the Moroccans in the 19th minute with a downward header.
Pitso Mosimane’s charges pressed for a winner in the final quarter of the game, with Wydad defending with numbers behind the ball.
But the Brazilians failed to bypass the Wydad defence and had to settle for a point in their opening Group C clash, leaving Mosimane and the crowd at Lucas Moripe Stadium frustrated.
