Mathoho happy to continue Chiefs quest

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs' influential defender Eric Mathoho has expressed his delight at renewing his deal at Naturena until 2020, as it means he can help bring the club more success.

The 26-year-old has become a rock at the heart of Chiefs' defence since signing for the club in 2012 from Bloemfontein Celtic.

He won a number of honours under previous coach Stuart Baxter and was famously a part of the Glamour Boys team that went 19 games unbeaten in 2014/15.

As such, it came as little surprise when Amakhosi announced they had renewed the player's deal for a further three years.

Mathoho, 26, has made four league appearances for the Steve Komphela-coached outfit in 2016/17.

Mathoho expressed his happiness at putting pen to paper on a new deal.

"I'm happy to have finally extended my stay with the club," he told the club's official website.

"It is something that I have always wanted to do and glad the club decided to keep me. This gives me more years at the club and to continue in our quest for honours."

Komphela's men are one point off league-leaders SuperSport and play their first match against Free State Stars on Tuesday, February 7.
