Mathoho extends Chiefs stay

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the extension of Eric 'Tower' Mathoho's contract with the defender committed to remain at Naturena until 2020.

Mathoho, 26, has been a tower of strength at the back for Amakhosi in his five seasons at the club.

The defender's deal was due to end in June this year, but Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung announced the extension as the team wrapped up their January window signings.

"We are glad Tower has signed a new deal with us," said Motaung on the club's official website.

"Tower signed a three year extension to his existing contract."

Chiefs have so far kept the most clean sheets in the league and are among the teams that conceded the least number of goals, twelve from fifteen matches in the league.

Mathoho has made four league appearances for the Steve Komphela-coached outfit in 2016/17.

Chiefs also confirmed the signing of Venezuelan-born striker, Gustavo Paez, who penned a two-year deal after undergoing a successful trial.

Komphela's men are one point off league-leaders SuperSport and play their first match against Free State Stars on Tuesday, February 7.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
