Baxter calls up son to fill void as Bafana goalkeeper coach

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter has called up his son, Lee, to fill in as goalkeeper coach in the absence of Andre Arendse.

Sport24 reported that Arendse has withdrawn from the national squad that will face Libya in an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier due to family commitments.

Lee, who is also the goalkeeper coach at Kaizer Chiefs, confirmed the news on his official Instagram account.

"What an Honour and a privilege it is to get called up for the National team as Goalkeeper Coach. A proud moment in my career," the post read.

"Always a massive thanks to all the people who support me in my job as I know it’s not always easy and the sacrifices are many...But they never go unseen! A BIG thanks to my club @kcfcofficial for believing in me and backing me!"

South Africa will take on the North Africans in their second Group E match, after securing a 2-0 away win against Nigeria last year.

The clash is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 8 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Kickoff is at 15:00.
