RFU mum on Mitchell’s England rumours

Cape Town - The RFU has refrained from commenting on reports that John Mitchell could become England’s new defence coach.

On Thursday, the Bulls issued a statement saying Mitchell had informed them that interest was shown in his services.

The Bulls did not say where the interest came from but talks behind the scenes are that it was England, who are on the hunt for a new defence guru after Paul Gustard left for Harlequins following the June Test series against the Springboks.

According to English publication The Telegraph, the RFU “has so far refused to comment” on the reports.

Mitchell, who has been in charge at Loftus Versfeld for just one full Super Rugby season, has been making headlines recently and late last month he reportedly made a request to the Bulls for a transfer kitty of R90 million ahead of the 2019 season.

The Bulls have also publicly backed Mitchell after a largely disappointing Super Rugby season.
