Jaco Kriel set for Bok return

Cape Town - Loose forward Jaco Kriel looks set to be included in the Springboks’ match-day squad for Saturday’s third and final Test against France in Johannesburg.

With Oupa Mohoje ruled out with concussion, there is a spot open in the team for a loose forward.

Mohoje left the field after a clash of heads early in the first half of last Saturday’s second Test in Durban and was replaced by Jean-Luc du Preez.

Du Preez impressed in South Africa’s 37-15 win and is expected to start at Ellis Park this Saturday, with Kriel likely to feature off the bench.

“I’m excited to see Jaco Kriel return to action and the chance is very good that he will be in the 23-man squad,” coach Allister Coetzee told Netwerk24 on Monday.

Kriel, who was exceptional for the Lions in the early stages of the Super Rugby season, has only recently recovered from a knee injury that kept him out of his side's three week tour to Australia in April and May.

Meanwhile utility back Jesse Kriel, who missed the second Test with concussion, is busy with the final phase of his return to play protocol and will be available for selection if he comes through the tests successfully.

The Springbok team will be named on Thursday afternoon.
