Cape Town - Springbok prop Trevor Nyakane is a major injury concern for the remainder of the national team's 2019 Rugby World Cup campaign in Japan.

Nyakane, who has been in fine form for the Bulls and Springboks this season, was helped from the field shortly after coming on as a second half replacement in Saturday's 23-13 Pool B defeat to the All Blacks in Yokohama.

Post-Test coach Rassie Erasmus confirmed that the injury to Nyakane's calf 'looks fairly serious'.

Nyakane was also forced to leave the field in the Springboks' final World Cup warm-up match against hosts Japan with a leg injury.

Should Nyakane be forced out of the tournament, Thomas du Toit would appear the logical replacement to join fellow tightheads Frans Malherbe and Vincent Koch in the squad.
