Johannesburg - It has been a long time since the Soweto derby unleashed any youngsters, but that could change on Saturday.

Will they be thrown into the deep end? That’s the question that many supporters would be asking themselves ahead of this game.

They don’t come bigger than the Soweto derby and all eyes will be on two particular youngsters, Lyle Foster and Wiseman Meyiwa, to see what they have to offer in, arguably, the biggest game of their careers.

The two could be the surprise package of the derby as they have already shown what they can do.

On the other hand, they could be intimidated by the occasion if they are not properly prepared.

Seasoned campaigner

While Meyiwa has hit the ground running for Kaizer Chiefs, scoring on his debut against Cape Town City, Orlando Pirates has steadily introduced Foster. He started only one game and came on as a substitute on two occasions.

Although his former development coach Augusto Palacios has been raving about him and his potential, it is unlikely that he will start on Saturday.

Meyiwa is already a regular in the Amakhosi line-up and looks like a seasoned campaigner in a short space of time.

Having already played in two World Cups (Under-17 and Under-20), Meyiwa has shown maturity beyond his age and is definitely one for the future.

Great heights

This game could be the launch pad they need for their respective careers.

The derby needs some spark and someone to inject life into the not-so-entertaining game.

The two will follow in the footsteps of Jabu Pule and Steve Lekoelea, who used to dazzle supporters as the youngest members of their respective teams.

The pair went on to reach great heights, and now the onus will be on two of soccer’s newest youngsters to walk the same path as their yesteryear heroes.
