Cape Town - Wits scored late on to rescue a point as they drew 1-1 with Polokwane City at the Bidvest Stadium on Sunday afternoon in an Absa Premiership encounter.
Vincent Pule came close to an early opener for Wits but was denied by good save from City goalkeeper George Chigova.
Wits were flinging a number of crosses into the Polokwane box but Chigova was equal to the wide deliveries, while Thapelo Tshilo did well to tackle a goalbound Lehlohonolo Majoro as he looked to shoot on 30 minutes.
Harold Ndlovu replaced an injured Chigova moments later, before Rodney Ramagalela fired just wide after breaking forward well, ahead of the half-time break.
Wits were again lively at the start of the second period, but were soon behind from a powerful header from Tshilo with 53 minutes on the clock.
Pule headed a Sfiso Hlanti cross from the left just off target as the Clever Boys looked for a response.
Granwald Scott was then next with an opportunity to score, albeit inadvertently with a looped cross that hit the City crossbar with Ndlovu beaten.
It was all Wits in the final few minutes, and no real surprise when Pule rifled home for a share of the spoils.
