Cape Town - Norman Mapeza has quit as head coach of Absa Premiership side Chippa United with immediate effect.
According to widespread reports, the Chilli Boys club owner Siviwe Mpengesi has confirmed the shock departure following their 1-0 win over AmaZulu over the weekend.
However, Chippa are yet to release an official statement on Mapeza's exit but rumours suggest that Mbuyiselo Sambu will take temporary charge of first-team proceedings until further notice.
Mapeza arrived at Chippa last year September, replacing Duran Francis, who briefly joined the Eastern Cape side for 13 days following the sacking of Clinton Larsen.
Mapeza has overseen 20 games in all competitions - eight wins, eight defeats and four draws - and was expected to be in the dugout for United against Wits on Saturday evening.
According to transfermarkt website, the former Ajax Cape Town defender was Chippa's 16th coach in five years.
