Cape Town - Cenk Tosun was amongst the goals again for Everton as his brace handed them a 2-1 win over Stoke in freezing conditions at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors should have taken the lead as early as the seventh minute. A Wayne Rooney set-piece deep into the box found Tom Davies unmarked at the far post, but his header sailed over the bar from inside the six-yard box.

Stoke were reduced to 10 men in the 30th minute. The snow-covered pitch made conditions difficult for the players and Charlie Adam's reckless tackle on Rooney left referee Martin Atkinson with no choice but to brandish a straight red card.

Rooney went close for the Toffees on the hour mark with a 25-yard free-kick that forced a good reaction save from Jack Butland.

Paul Lambert's men had a chance to steal a goal in the 65th minute. Ramadan Sobhi's flighted ball was challenged for by Peter Crouch and Jordan Pickford with the ball then falling to Glen Johnson, who failed to hit the target.

The Merseysiders restored their lead in the 69th minute. Tosun scored for a third game running after Butland failed to hold the Turk's initial header after he was well found by a Yannick Bolasie cross from the left.

Just moments later, Choupo-Moting equalised for the hosts after he headed in a Joe Allen free-kick. It was a revival which was short-lived as five minutes later Theo Walcott burst down the right flank and whipped in an excellent ball for Tosun to head in and complete his brace.
