A 14-man Lions team began their three-match tour of Europe with a slice of United Rugby Championship (URC) history, beating Irish side Connacht 38-14 to be the first South African side ever to beat them at home in 10 matches.

Ivan van Rooyen's men played with a man short for 63 minutes but were never behind once in the game, scoring six tries to the bumbling hosts' two to record a famous bonus points win that lifted them from 11th to seventh on the URC table.
