Former Springbok skipper John Smit was full of praise during a United Rugby Championship (URC) media call earlier this week, calling the rise of the tournament and its overall success "phenomenal".

After years of playing Southern Hemisphere sides from Australia, New Zealand and then Argentina, South African teams left Super Rugby to join the newly formed URC for the 2021/2022 season.
