Neymar has shocked people online with a comment he made on a post about his former Paris Saint-Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Barcelona.

As Mbappe and his colleagues were preparing for their European clash against the Catalan giants, Neymar, who left the French side at the end of last season for Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal, caused a significant stir online.

After forming an incredible on-field relationship with Mbappe in France's capital in 2017, the pair later ended up falling out as the Frenchman's importance at PSG surpassed the Brazilian's.

With his latest activity online, Neymar has shown their differences were not necessarily put aside after he left a comment that read "gringo ball sucker" in response to a Brazilian Instagram page defending Mbappe from criticism.

According to Zach Lowy, the page wrote: "Mbappe is once again showing he is a good guy, the victim of a poorly told story. Mbappe has a competitive spirit. People confuse a guy who wants to win everything with a bad person."

People online were quick to notice the bizarre comment left on the post by Neymar, who is currently sidelined with an injury in Saudi Arabia.

It is believed "gringo" refers to someone who is not from Brazil.

As per another Brazilian online page SelecaoTalk, the 32-year-old was "referring to the Brazilian problem where Brazilians often criticise everything Brazilian and praise everything European".

Neymar has long endured a strained relationship with Brazil fans despite being the country's all-time leading goalscorer, having failed to win a major trophy with his national team since his introduction to the side.

Mbappe scored twice as PSG beat Barcelona 4-1 away in Spain on Tuesday night to advance to the semi-final stage of the Champions League.
