Celtic keen for Derby win

Cape Town - Free State Stars and Bloemfontein Celtic will meet for an Absa Premiership derby at Goble Park.

Stars claimed their fifth win of the season with a 2-1 victory at Platinum Stars on January 17.

The Bethlehem side has claimed nine points from seven home matches this season.

Ea Lla Koto are placed eighth on the Absa Premiership log with 18 points from 13 matches.

Celtic saw their winless run extended to eight matches after they were beaten 1-0 at home by Kaizer Chiefs on January 17.

The Bloemfontein side has claimed 10 points from eight away matches this season.

Phunya Sele Sele are placed ninth on the Absa Premiership log with 17 points from 14 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Stars and Celtic have met in 48 league matches since 1986.

Ea Lla Koto have 16 wins compared to 13 for Phunya Sele Sele, while 19 matches have been drawn.

Stars have won 11 of their 24 home matches against Celtic, suffering five defeats in the process.

Last season Ea Lla Koto completed a league ‘double’ over Phunya Sele Sele, winning 1-0 both home and away.

The teams’ last 10 league meetings have produced 19 goals.

Kick-off is at 15:30 on January 23.
