Johannesburg - Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Manqoba Ngwenya is on the verge of signing for Vasco da Gama ahead of the new season.
The 29-year-old had been a peripheral player for the Brazilians for the past few seasons and was finally released in July.
He has, however, impressed the Cape Town side's technical staff after training with the club for two weeks and is expected to sign in a couple of days.
Ngwenya told the Sowetan: "I have been in Cape Town training with Vasco da Gama and we are talking. I think we will be able to conclude a deal in a few days' time.
"It is a matter of days before people who support me see me back in action."
Ngwenya, who began his career with Wits University, has previously been a target for Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu, but then coach Hristo Stoichkov refused to sell the player, despite indicating that he was not part of his plans.
He has is now finally ready to make a fresh start and reignite his career and added: "I want to play again and contribute to the success of Vasco da Gama."
