Baxter: We need right attitude

Johannesburg - After almost seven years without having won the league title, Kaizer Chiefs are putting in a strong bid to clinch the title this season.

According to the website, the Soweto giants last won the Absa Premiership in 2006, under the guidance of Ted Dumitru.

They currently lead the table standings with 42 points after 19 rounds of league action, two points ahead of arch rivals and defending PSL champions, Orlando Pirates.

Chiefs have established themselves as serious title contenders under coach Stuart Baxter and the former Bafana Bafana mentor has called on his team to be mentally strong ahead of the Saturday’s Absa Premiership fixture against Wits at the FNB Stadium.

He told the Siya crew that the competition in the PSL is tough and that it will be a challenging run-in to the end of the season.

“We need mental strength. We need the right attitude. There are about three or four teams who can still claim the title, but since we have raised our hands we have to continue working hard and be mentally strong to avoid falling under pressure.

“There is always going to be pressure in such a fight and going into the game against Wits on Saturday we have to show that we can withhold the pressure and come back with three points.

Chiefs knocked Wits out of the Nedbank Cup last weekend, however the coach is expecting a different encounter all together. He went on, “They will be coming with a different mentality from the first game, which was last week’s cup encounter.

“We have to maintain our focus and make sure we are ready for this battle. They are a good side and they have always given us a good game whenever we play them.”
