Bafana adapting to artificial pitch

Cape Town - Kermit Erasmus admits that many things favour Congo in their AFCON qualifying encounter but expects Bafana Bafana to rise to the occasion.

Speaking to Orlando Pirates’ website, the forward revealed that he found it difficult at first to get comfortable on the artificial pitch. Bafana have been training on a synthetic surface at the Royal Marang Sports Complex ahead of their Congo encounter on Saturday.

“It’s a bit difficult getting used to the fast pace of it,” said Erasmus.

“How the ball skids off the surface is obviously different from playing on natural grass but we are professional footballers, we have to adapt to different circumstances.

“In any case we know our opposition and we know what to expect. We are well prepared and we just need to go out there and give everything for the country.”

Erasmus was unfortunate not to feature in Congo when Pirates played AC Leopards in the CAF Champions League but the striker is confident he will be able to adapt having competed in Africa before.

“It’s never easy playing away from home especially outside of South Africa but we have to put that aside and focus on the main prize which is to progress to the next stage,” said Erasmus.

“You know there will always be trials and tribulations but we won’t allow that to be a factor because our only objective is to win.”
