Thanks for joining us tonight.

Unfortunately it didn't go SA's way despite a seriously good innings from Hashim Amla.

The big talking point remains the opening batting position for SA at the World Twenty20.

De Kock and Amla OR

Amla and De Villiers OR

De Villiers and De Kock ...

Time will tell ...

Goodnight!

09 Mar 21:15

SA bowling figures

Steyn 0/30 (4)

Rabada 0/38 (4)

Abbott 0/32 (3.2)

Tahir 2/38 (4)

Wiese 0/23 (2)

Duminy 0/18 (2)

09 Mar 21:12

In the end SA probably didn't get enough runs on the board ... that middle period just not producing enough after they got off to a flying start.

They leave for the ICC World Twenty20 tomorrow, and they have a lot to think about ...

09 Mar 21:11

19.2 - FOUR! And that is that!

Australia win comfortably in the end, by 6 wickets ...

09 Mar 21:10
19.1 - Single to sweeper. 2 needed off 5 ...
09 Mar 21:09
It'll be Kyle Abbott ...
09 Mar 21:09
Australia need just 3 to win off the final over ...
09 Mar 21:09
SIX! Rabada goes short and Marsh, facing his second ball, swings the willow at it. It flies off the bat and goes for six over backward point ...
09 Mar 21:08
Dot ball ... 10 from 8 now ...
09 Mar 21:07

WICKET! Rabada strikes! Smith looks for the paddle over fine leg and loops it tamely to De Kock behind the stumps ...

Smith out for 44 off 26

Aus 169/4 and need 10 from 9 ... surely too little too late from SA

09 Mar 21:04
Rabada to bowl his last over. It hasn't been a good night for him so far ...
09 Mar 21:04

Steyn finishes with figures of 0/30 (4) ...

Aus need 12 off 12

09 Mar 21:03
FOUR! Maxwell makes room for himself again and this time hits Steyn over mid-off ...
09 Mar 21:01
FOUR! Not a bad way for Maxwell to start ... he backs away and slices it over point
09 Mar 21:00
Glenn Maxwell the new man ...
09 Mar 21:00

WICKET! Suicidal run-out from Warner there. He really didn't have to go back for the second. Imran Tahir launches it in from third man and Warner is well short ...

Warner out for 32 off 27

Aus 157/3

22 needed off 17 ...

09 Mar 20:58
Steyn will bowl his last over ...
09 Mar 20:57

Nine off the over and that'll do the Aussies nicely.

156/2 (17) ... 23 needed off 18

09 Mar 20:56

SIX! What a shot! Steve Smith walks across his stumps and picks it up off his pads and launches it over deep square.

"That is a sensational cricket shot," says Kepler Wessels.

09 Mar 20:54
Rabada's first ball goes straight through Warner. If it is going to happen for SA, it needs to happen now ...
09 Mar 20:53

Aus 147/2 (16) ...

32 needed off 24 as Rabada comes back into the attack ...

09 Mar 20:52
The running between the wicket has been so good from Warner and Smith ...
09 Mar 20:50
Immy Tahir fields one at third man and needs three or four grabs to pick it up! Quality ...
09 Mar 20:47
Abbott back into the attack ...
09 Mar 20:47
Tahir finishes with 2/38 (4)
09 Mar 20:46

Aus 138/2 (15) ...

09 Mar 20:44
Australia need just 46 off 35 now and still have 8 wickets in hand ...
09 Mar 20:43
Tahir to bowl his fourth and final over ...
09 Mar 20:43
This looks a tall order for SA now ...
09 Mar 20:43

FOUR! Warner goes to the vacant third-man fence again. This time it's straight from Wiese but Warner knows his field and works the angle ...

Aus 132/2 (14) ...

09 Mar 20:41
FOUR! Full toss from Wiese just outside off and Warner, knowing that third-man is up, opens the face and picks up an easy boundary ...
09 Mar 20:40
FOUR! Wide from Wiese with third man up and all Warner has to do is get some bat on it. Poor from Wiese ...
09 Mar 20:39
And he starts with a wide ...
09 Mar 20:38
Wiese returns ...
09 Mar 20:38

Aus 116/2 (13) ...

Steyn is 0/19 (3) and he looks like he has a spring in his step. Good signs ahead of the World T20

09 Mar 20:37
FOUR! Not quite sure how Smith has squeezed that one out from underneath his own feet, but he has. It races to fine-leg.
09 Mar 20:35
Replays reveal that Warner is safe.
09 Mar 20:35
CHANCE! Tahir has hit the stumps from short fine-leg and Warner was struggling ... we're going upstairs!
09 Mar 20:32
Steyn returns ...
09 Mar 20:32

And Australia pick up 11 effortless runs that over ...

Aus 108/2 (12) ...

Time maybe to bring Steyn or Rabada back into the attack? SA need a wicket desperately ...

09 Mar 20:30
FOUR! Smith goes on the reverse sweep and beats short third-man ...
09 Mar 20:29
Duminy continues ...
09 Mar 20:29

11 off that Tahir over ...

Aus 97/2 (11) and it's anybody's game here at PPC Newlands ...

09 Mar 20:27
SIX! You don't get much straighter than that. Smith launches Tahir over his head and that was big ...
09 Mar 20:26

Aus 86/2 (10)

SA were 87/2 (10)

09 Mar 20:25

And, bowling to two new batsmen, JP Duminy goes for 7 in his first over.

That'll do his confidence the world of good ...

09 Mar 20:22
Here comes JP Duminy ...
09 Mar 20:22

David Warner off the mark first ball with a single ...

Great over from Tahir there. 5 runs off it and 2 big wickets.

Aus 79/2 (9)

09 Mar 20:21

WICKET! Tahir strikes again and it's another big one! Khawaja looks to hit him out the ground but finds Amla at deep square-leg.

Khawaja out for 33.

Tahir has shifted the momentum here ...

Aus 78/2

09 Mar 20:18

WICKET! Wow! It felt like we were watching a live replay there.

That's gone straight up and forced Du Plessis into attempting the exact same catch over his shoulder.

This time he takes it and Tahir has his man.

Watson out for 42 (27)

Aus 76/1

  • 19.2 - FOUR! Kyle Abbott to Mitchell Marsh. Slower ball short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, well timed past long off for 4 runs. Short, slapped back down the ground past mid off to wrap up the game and the series!

A brilliant comeback by the Aussies from one nil down to take the series 2-1. A superb chase under the lights, after Amla produced a masterclass in the first innings. All the Aussie batsmen contributed and they thoroughly deserved the win. They will be heading to India in full confidence, with a powerful looking batting line up. South Africa have also played some decent T20 cricket, so won't be disheartened by the series loss.

  • 19.1 - Kyle Abbott to Glenn Maxwell. Leg cutter length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, to deep cover for 1 run, fielded by Duminy.

  • 18.6 - Kagiso Rabada to Glenn Maxwell. Slower ball short, outside off stump on the back foot cutting, to cover for 1 run, shy attempt by du Plessis.

  • 18.5 - SIX! Kagiso Rabada to Glenn Maxwell. Short, outside off stump backing away cutting, well timed in the air under control over third man for 6 runs. It's quite hard to describe that shot from Maxwell. He swings very hard at it, not sure whether he was suppose to pull this or cut it. Nevertheless he gets the exact result he was looking for. It flies in the air over third man for a maximum!

  • 18.4 - Kagiso Rabada to Glenn Maxwell. Slower length ball, outside off stump on the front foot Slog, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by de Kock.

  • wicket: OUT! Caught. Kagiso Rabada to Steven Smith. Full toss, outside off stump moves in front Scoop, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to leg slip, by de Kock. A tame end to a good innings from the Australia captain. He gets the perfect ball to lift it over short fine leg, but his ramp shot is executed poorly. It comes off the splice of the bat and loops up in the air for de Kock to take with the gloves.

  • 18.2 - Kagiso Rabada to Glenn Maxwell. Slower ball short, outside off stump backing away cutting, to backward point for 1 run, fielded by Tahir.

  • 18.1 - Kagiso Rabada to Steven Smith. Half volley, middle stump moves in front flick, to deep backward square leg for 1 run, fielded by Wiese.

  • 17.6 - Dale Steyn to Glenn Maxwell. Half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, to deep extra cover for 2 runs, fielded by du Plessis.

  • 17.5 - FOUR! Dale Steyn to Glenn Maxwell. Back of a length, outside off stump backing away pulling, well timed in the air under control past long off for 4 runs. Mid off up in the ring, Maxwelll knew the short ball was coming, so gave himself some room and flat-batted it over the fielder and into the rope.

  • 17.4 - Dale Steyn to Glenn Maxwell. Slower ball short, outside off stump on the back foot Steer, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by de Kock.

  • 17.3 - Dale Steyn to Glenn Maxwell. Back of a length, outside off stump moves in front, Left to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by de Kock.

  • 17.2 - FOUR! Dale Steyn to Glenn Maxwell. Back of a length, outside off stump backing away cutting, well timed past third man for 4 runs. Short and wide, Maxwell slashes a cut shot to the right of third man and it cannot be stopped!

  • wicket: OUT! Run Out. Dale Steyn to David Warner. Slower length ball, outside off stump on the front foot Steer, to third man for 1 run, fielded by Tahir, by de Kock. Suicide running from Warner. Completely misjudges it. He gets it down to third man, where Tahir is quick to the ball and fires in a throw. Warner takes him on, as he's known for his questionable fielding, but it doesn't pay off and he's way short of his ground.

  • 16.6 - Kagiso Rabada to David Warner. Length ball, down leg side on the front foot Slog, mis-timed to deep mid wicket for 1 run, fielded by Miller.

  • 16.5 - Kagiso Rabada to David Warner. Bouncer, down leg side on the back foot cutting, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by de Kock.

  • 16.4 - Kagiso Rabada to Steven Smith. Length ball, outside off stump moves in front Slog, inside edge to backward square leg for 1 run, fielded by Steyn.

  • 16.3 - SIX! Kagiso Rabada to Steven Smith. Length ball, outside off stump moves in front flick, well timed in the air under control over deep backward square leg for 6 runs. Exceptional shot from Smith. He moves across his stumps, uses the pace of the ball to play a cracking pick-up shot, flicking it way over the rope at deep backward square leg for six.

  • 16.2 - Kagiso Rabada to David Warner. Length ball, to leg on the front foot Slog, to long on for 1 run, fielded by Miller.

  • 16.1 - Kagiso Rabada to David Warner. Back of a length, down leg side on the back foot pulling, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by de Kock.

  • 15.6 - Kyle Abbott to Steven Smith. Slower ball short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, to deep mid wicket for 2 runs, fielded by Rossouw.

  • 15.5 - Kyle Abbott to Steven Smith. Leg cutter back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot Late Cut, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by de Kock.

  • 15.4 - Kyle Abbott to David Warner. Half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed in the air under control to long off for 1 run, fielded by Rossouw.

  • 15.4 - Wide Kyle Abbott to David Warner. Bouncer, down leg side on the back foot pulling, missed to wicketkeeper for 1 run, fielded by de Kock.

  • 15.3 - Kyle Abbott to David Warner. Half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, outside edge in the air uncontrolled to third man for 2 runs, mis-fielded by Tahir.

  • 15.3 - Wide Kyle Abbott to David Warner. Yorker, wide outside off stump on the front foot Steer, missed to wicketkeeper for 1 run, fielded by de Kock.

  • 15.2 - Kyle Abbott to Steven Smith. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot flick, to deep backward square leg for 1 run, fielded by Miller.

  • 15.1 - Kyle Abbott to David Warner. Short, to leg on the back foot cutting, to long off for 1 run, fielded by Rossouw.

  • 14.6 - Imran Tahir to Steven Smith. Leg spinner length ball, outside off stump down the track working, to long on for 2 runs, fielded by Duminy.

  • 14.5 - APPEAL! Imran Tahir to Steven Smith. Quicker length ball, middle stump on the front foot pushing, hit pad to silly point for no runs, fielded by de Kock, appeal made for L.B.W. Fired in by Tahir but it's sliding down the leg side, easy decision for the umpire to give.

  • 14.4 - Imran Tahir to David Warner. Leg spinner half volley, middle stump on the front foot driving, well timed to long off for 1 run, fielded by Duminy.

  • 14.3 - Imran Tahir to Steven Smith. Leg spinner length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, to deep cover for 1 run, fielded by Steyn.

  • 14.2 - Imran Tahir to David Warner. Leg spinner full toss, outside off stump on the front foot reverse sweeping, to slips for 1 run, fielded by Amla.

  • 14.1 - Imran Tahir to Steven Smith. Leg spinner full toss, to leg down the track working, to long on for 1 run, fielded by Duminy.

  • 13.6 - David Wiese to David Warner. Full toss, outside off stump moves in front flick, to deep mid wicket for 2 runs, fielded by Duminy.

  • 13.5 - FOUR! David Wiese to David Warner. Off cutter length ball, middle stump backing away Late Cut, well timed past third man for 4 runs. Good batting this time. He makes the room himself to get it down to third man again. Warner is making this look all too easy, cutting it into the gap and picking up another four.

  • 13.4 - FOUR! David Wiese to David Warner. Full toss, outside off stump on the front foot Steer, well timed past third man for 4 runs. Poor bowling from Wiese. Now a wide full toss. Warner delibrately opens the face, using the pace of the ball to thread it past the fielder for four more.

  • 13.3 - David Wiese to David Warner. Off cutter short, down leg side on the back foot pulling, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by de Kock.

  • 13.2 - FOUR! David Wiese to David Warner. Off cutter back of a length, outside off stump moves in front Late Cut, well timed past third man for 4 runs. Warner has to stretch a long way to reach this delivery. Far too wide from Wiese and with third man up in the ring, all Warner has to do is guide it past the fielder to get four.

  • 13.1 - David Wiese to Steven Smith. Off cutter length ball, outside off stump moves in front working, to deep backward square leg for 1 run, fielded by Steyn.

  • 13.1 - Wide David Wiese to Steven Smith. Off cutter back of a length, wide outside off stump down the track cutting, missed to wicketkeeper for 1 run, fielded by de Kock.

  • 12.6 - Dale Steyn to Steven Smith. Slower ball short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, bottom edge to slips for 1 run, fielded by de Kock.

  • 12.4 - FOUR! Dale Steyn to Steven Smith. Half volley, down leg side backing away flick, well timed past deep backward square leg for 4 runs. Somehow Smith gets this to the boundary. Steyn follows him brilliantly down the leg side but Smith gets some bat on it and flicks it between his own legs for four.

  • 12.3 - Dale Steyn to David Warner. Back of a length, down leg side backing away pulling, hit body to leg gully for 1 run, fielded by de Kock.

  • 12.2 - APPEAL! Dale Steyn to Steven Smith. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, to short fine leg for 1 run, direct hit by Tahir, appeal made for Run Out. Pulled firmly to Tahir at short fine leg. He produces some fine fielding as he picks up and throws down the stumps. Warner, however, gets home safely.

  • 12.1 - Dale Steyn to David Warner. Half volley, to leg backing away driving, to cover for 1 run, fielded by Duminy.

  • 11.6 - JP Duminy to David Warner. Off break back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot cutting, to deep cover for 1 run, fielded by du Plessis.

  • 11.3 - JP Duminy to Steven Smith. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot flick, to deep mid wicket for 2 runs, fielded by du Plessis.

  • 11.2 - FOUR! JP Duminy to Steven Smith. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot reverse sweeping, well timed past third man for 4 runs. Great execution of the reverse sweep by Smith. He connects cleanly and it races away to the third man boundary.

  • 11.1 - JP Duminy to David Warner. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot sweeping, to long on for 1 run, fielded by Miller.

  • 10.6 - Imran Tahir to David Warner. Quicker ball back of a length, to leg on the back foot pulling, to deep mid wicket for 1 run, fielded by Rossouw.

  • 10.2 - SIX! Imran Tahir to Steven Smith. Leg spinner length ball, outside off stump down the track driving, well timed in the air under control over long off for 6 runs. Mammoth six from Smith. He dances down to Tahir and cracks it straight back over the bowler and into the sightscreen.

  • wicket: OUT! Caught. Imran Tahir to Usman Khawaja. Leg spinner length ball, down leg side on the front foot slog sweeping, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep backward square leg, by Amla. Tahir has dragged South Africa back into the game! He has picked up another! Khawaja goes for the big sweep shot, gets a fairly good connection but picks out Amla perfectly at deep backward square leg.

  • 8.3 - Imran Tahir to Usman Khawaja. Leg spinner half volley, down leg side on the front foot working, to deep mid wicket for 1 run, fielded by Rossouw.

Carbon copy of the previous delivery except du Plessis does make his ground to send Watson on his way! Very wide delivery from Tahir that Watson tries to drive over extra cover. It comes right off the toe of the bat and loops in the air for Faf to run back and take a stunner over his shoulder.

  • 8.1 - Imran Tahir to Shane Watson. Leg spinner length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep extra cover for 2 runs, fielded by Miller. Right off the toe of the bat. It sails in the air but Faf cannot run back from cover to take the catch!

  • 6.4 - Imran Tahir to Shane Watson. Leg spinner length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to long off for 2 runs, dropped catch by Miller. • 6.3 - SIX! Imran Tahir to Shane Watson. Leg spinner half volley, middle stump on the front foot slog sweeping, well timed in the air under control over deep mid wicket for 6 runs. • 5.1 - FOUR! Kyle Abbott to Usman Khawaja. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, well timed past deep cover for 4 runs. Short and pulled away confidently by Khawaja. Seems like the wrong tactic from South Africa to go short at him, he's been dispatching it away with ease so far.

That concludes the South African innings. It seems to be a par score. They got off to an absolute flyer in the first six overs thanks to de Kock and Amla. Then the Aussies brought it back with some tight bowling. But in the end Miller and Amla finished off the innings with some lusty blows to boost South Africa to a decent total. Australia will still be confident of chasing it down. They chased 205 in the last match so it's not out of reach, but it will be a difficult task against a good bowling line up.

Nice change of pace from Watson that brings about the wicket of the South Africa captain. Du Plessis never really got going in his short stay at the crease. He doesn't pick the slower ball as he tries to drive the ball and is far too early on the stroke. The bat twists in his hands as it came off the inner half of the willow and the ball loops in the air to short mid wicket for the catch.

  • 2.1 - FOUR! Shane Watson to Hashim Amla. Length ball, off stump on the front foot glancing, well timed past fine leg for 4 runs. Fired into the stumps by Watson first up, but it's far too straight to the quality of Amla. He clips it off his pads with a flick of the wrists down to the fine leg boundary.
