Cape Town - Australian batting revelation Shaun Marsh has backed Mickey Arthur to do a fine job coaching the Australian team if the former Proteas mentor applies for the position.
According to the Sportal.com website, Western Australian coach Arthur is one of the frontrunners to take over the Australian job after incumbent Tim Nielsen opted to not re-apply for the position, despite overseeing Australia's Test series victory in Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
With Nielsen now stepping down ahead of next month's tour to South Africa, Arthur is fourth favourite to replace him according to the bookies, behind former New Zealand coach Steve Rixon and Western Australian pair Justin Langer and Tom Moody.
Arthur has been Marsh's coach at the Warriors over the last summer since a messy exit from the South African role in early 2010, but Marsh believes he would do a superb job for Australia.
"It's completely up to Mickey," said Marsh from Perth on his return from Sri Lanka, where he made a successful debut in the Australian side.
"He's certainly helped my game out a lot and I'm sure if he put his hat in the ring, I'm sure he'd do a great job."
"He's got a very good cricket brain. You can sit down and talk to him about cricket all day."
"He communicates to his players very well. He's just an all-around nice guy"
"But I'm pretty sure that his main priority at the moment is WA cricket. He wants us to perform very well this summer."
