Cape Town - Proteas coach, Mickey Arthur has resigned, according to a report from Eye Witness News.
It is understood his relationship with skipper Graeme Smith has deteriorated irreparably.
The shock resignation comes just over a year after the Protea’s historic Test series victory in Australia, and just a few days before the team’s departure for India.
Arthur and Cricket South Africa management reportedly held an emergency meeting in Johannesburg last week, to discuss the team’s struggles in the Test series against England.
It is believed Arthur met with Cricket South Africa Chief Executive Gerald Majola on Monday, about his severance package.
The tension between Arthur and Smith started apparently on the evening of the game, when Smith publicly questioned his coach’s decision to gamble with team selection.
The country’s cricket bosses are not commenting but it is believed former fast bowler Corrie van Zyl has been appointed as caretaker coach.
