Federer, who led by two sets, held match point in the third set, only for Anderson to break his serve and launch the greatest comeback of his career.

The big-serving South African went on to win 2-6, 6-7 (5/7), 7-5, 6-4, 13-11 making it the first time Federer has ever suffered defeat at the All England Club having held a match point.

Anderson, 32, is the first South African man to make the last four at Wimbledon since Kevin Curren in 1983.

Seeded eighth for the tournament, Anderson will now play American ninth seed John Isner in the semi-finals on Friday.
