Cape Town - South Africa’s Kevin Anderson and his doubles partner Novak Djokovic have reached the quarter-finals of the Toronto Masters.
The duo, who contested last month’s Wimbledon men's singles final, on Thursday knocked out defending Toronto champions Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France.
Anderson and Djokovic lost the first set 6-4, before winning the second 6-4. They then won the deciding match tie-break 10-7.
On Monday, the South African star and 13-time Grand Slam champion defeated the Canadian duo of Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 6-2 in their first-round match.
They will next face Croatia’s Nikola Mektic Austria’s Alexander Peya.
Earlier on Thursday, Anderson had also reached the quarter-finals of the men’s singles when he defeated Belarusian qualifier Ilya Ivashka 7-5, 6-3.
Djokovic had suffered a surprising 6-3, 6-7 (5/7), 6-3 loss to Greek teenager Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Meanwhile, South Africa will have two participants in the men’s doubles quarter-finals, as Raven Klaasen and his New Zealand partner Michael Venus defeated Poland’s Lukasz Kubot and Brazil’s Marcelo Melo 6-3, 5-7, 11-9.
Klaasen and Venus will next face the US duo of Mike Bryan and Jack Sock in what will be a rematch of this year’s Wimbledon final which the Americans won in five sets.
