Cape Town - The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has formally requested a written explanation from Platinum Stars head coach Roger de Sa and Mamelodi Sundowns counterpart Pitso Mosimane regarding comments made on match officials.

The PSL Disciplinary Committee (PSL DC) said in a statement: The Premier Soccer League has addressed formal correspondence to the Platinum Stars FC head coach Mr Roger de Sa and to the Mamelodi Sundowns FC coach Mr Pitso Mosimane.

This follows comments made by the two respective coaches concerning match officials on 23 and 24 February 2018.
The League has given both coaches five working days to respond to a request asking them to formally confirm or deny the comments attributed to them.

Mosimane hit out at the standard of refereeing in the Absa Premiership after his side was held to a 1-1 draw by SuperSport United.

Mosimane told SuperSport TV he was unconvinced that Matsatsantsa's goal should have stood.

"It's a difficult time for referees at this stage. They are human beings. Unfortunately, mistakes can cost you the league. It’s difficult now because I come from the stands and I have to keep leadership," he said.

"But it’s very difficult sometimes to keep leadership. You heard what Gavin Hunt said, you heard what Benni (McCarthy) said. Benni will forever be called to the DC because that guy there, Mr Barker, only wants to collect money from the coaches.

"I’m not sure about the SuperSport goal. What I know is that the linesman was late and it was probably not offside. What I can guarantee is he was late not once, twice or three times - he was forever late."

Likewise De Sa also hit out at match official Victor Gomes after his side were defeated 2-1 by Maritzburg United who were awarded a last-minute penalty with De Sa sent off for appealing the decision.

"I understand mistakes... but come on guys. The stats are there... really how much more? I mean the worse thing about it, I said to him after the game, I said ‘Mr ref’, I actually said, ‘Victor, come on you can’t have a Gomes show every week’ and those are my exact words. Is that a red card?

"I was actually giving him a bit of advice and he turned around and said, ‘no, it’s a red card and it’s ungentlemanly conduct’."
