Playing 15s and Sevens at international level within the span of one year isn't exactly revolutionary.

After all, the late and legendary Joost van der Westhuizen navigated a difficult 1997 Springbok campaign while making the most of his call-up to the Blitzboks to play an instrumental role in them finishing runners-up in the Melrose Cup, then the jewel in the Sevens crown.
