February 2018 seems like a lifetime ago, but like a seasoned veteran returning to the Olympics for another chance at glory, the Hyundai Mighty EX8 is still going strong in 2021. Join us as we revisit the arrival of the medium-duty truck and see what features have allowed it to remain a prominent figure in South Africa’s commercial vehicle space.

Manufactured with proprietary Hyundai steel, the Mighty EX8 is a popular choice for fleet managers looking for a business partner that can work efficiently and reliably, carrying large loads over long distances.

From the ground up & beyond

The EX8, like its sibling (H100) in the Hyundai Automotive SA’s commercial vehicle range, is assembled at Hyundai’s vehicle factory in Apex, Benoni.

The factory caters to the specific needs of customers by producing standard and customized body options to spec. Some of these bespoke builds include van bodies, dropsides and tippers. Customers can also rely on the factory for a complete range of repair services to make sure they continue to get the very best out of their EX8s.

20/20 vision

Recognising the importance of a clear line of sight both of the road ahead and the traffic behind, visibility in the EX8 has been maximised. The windscreen size has been increased for a wider view and the low-angled dash also offers greater visibility. What’s more, the external mirrors are tall and features a second mirror beneath it to provide a more extensive field of vision and eliminate troublesome blind spots in traffic.

The stacked headlamps have been optimised for night vision, casting a longer and wider beam pattern.

A comfortable seat for the long haul

Legroom and headroom have been designed into this truck’s spacious interior of its cabin. Similarly, in the pursuit of greater driving comfort, the seat includes lower back support has been installed. The EX8 boasts an interior space of 3.5m³ which includes 11.8 litres of storage space for both the driver and passengers. All in all, the practical design of the cabin ensures that drivers can enjoy the most comfortable and safest driving position for long trips.

The EX8’s bread and butter

While comfort for long trips has been designed into the interior cabin, versatility and efficiency have been built into the exterior. This is exemplified by a longer wheelbase and longer deck options which together mean that drivers can make fewer trips as they transport more freight during each journey.

Various load carrying options are available to suit the specific needs of customers.

The EX8 still makes a compelling argument to be considered the best choice in cargo carrying for a business. What’s more, even with a smaller engine, the EX8 still produces outputs that rival those of its competitors.

A testament to the confidence that Hyundai has is clear with the EX8 coming standard with a market leading 4-year, unlimited mileage warranty.

Like an athlete at the peak of their performance, the Mighty EX8 continues to be a long time fleet favourite.
