The Real MVP?

An intriguing development in Brooklyn, where Sixers centre Joel Embiid is chasing the scoring title and the MVP narrative. Embiid is up against Denver Nugget Nikola Jokic as well as Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The NBA playoff picture before Sunday night's games.

Having started the evening in 7th position in the West, the Lakers are in the top seed in the Play-In picture. But the Warriors and Clippers just above them aren't safe.

Denver Nuggets (1st), Memphis Grizzlies (2nd), Sacramento Kings (3rd) and Phoenix Suns have already secured their playoff spots.

In the East, Miami Heat find themselves in the same position as the Lakers in seventh but, with the Eastern Conference playoff spots locked in, they are headed for the Play-In tournament, where they'll be joined by the Atlanta Hawks (8th), Toronto Raptors (9th) and Chicago Bulls (10th).

Milwaukee Bucks top the seedings in the East, Boston Celtics are second, while Philadelphia Sixers (3rd), Cleveland Cavaliers (4th), New York Knicks (5th) and Brooklyn Nets (6th) make up the rest of the guaranteed playoff places.

All 30 NBA teams will be in action as the NBA rolls out one of its innovations, NBA 360, which is a buffet of basketball action for the final round of regular season games.

The Western Conference is where most eyes will be looking, where the LA Clippers and Golden State Warriors currently hold the last automatic playoff positions.

But they face a huge threat from the LA Lakers, who have been resurged since the NBA All-Star break and since acquiring D'Angelo Russell.

Former Playoff MVP Kawhi Leonard will hope to lead his Clippers side against Phoenix Suns, who have already qualified for the playoffs, come 21:30 tip-off.

Meanwhile, their crosstown rivals, LeBron James and the Lakers host the Utah Jazz, who are already eliminated from playoff contention.

Steph Curry's Warriors are in Portland for a match-up with the Trailblazers.
