South African para-athlete Louzanne Coetzee raced to her first Paralympic medal when she took silver in the women's T11 1 500m in Tokyo on Monday.

Coetzee ran her guide Erasmus Badenhorst to finish second and set a personal best and African record time of 4:40.96.

The 28-year-old took silver behind Mexico's Monica Rodriguez Saavedra, who broke the world record by clinching gold in 4:37.40.

News24 spoke to Coetzee, who was born with a inherited eye condition, back in 2018 with her life's story (Watch video above).
