Cape Town - Five wickets by Marchant de Lange put the Knights in the pound seats at the halfway stage of their Sunfoil Series clash against the Dolphins at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on Friday.
The fast bowler claimed an impressive five for 57 to blow the visitors away for 237 in reply to the champions’ 478 all out earlier on day two.
With 241 runs the difference between the two sides, the hosts then enforced the follow on, although the Dolphins managed to reach the close without further damage on 9/0.
The Knights, who endured a miserable three months of white ball cricket, continued their dominance of the game from the start of day two when their last four wickets added 78, including a quick-fire 70 (67 balls, 7 fours, 3 sixes) from Shadley van Schalkwyk.
Proteas spinner Keshav Maharaj was the pick of the bowlers with a five for 128, the 18th time he had taken five wickets or more in an innings.
But his five-for was trumped by De Lange as the home side landed regular blows against their KwaZulu-Natal visitors.
There were two notable contributions for the Dolphins with Senuran Muthusamy top-scoring with 95 (193 balls, 13 fours) and Robbie Frylinck striking a free-scoring 57 (65 balls, 7 fours, 1 six).
But De Lange's 10th career five-wicket haul and first of the season led to the One-Day Cup joint champions being bowled out in 68.4 overs to leave the Knights in complete control at the close.
