Al Ahly chiefs have reportedly come to a big decision regarding Percy Tau.

Members of Al Ahly's board of directors have now reportedly made a big call on Percy Tau's future as the attacker approaches the final year of his contract in Cairo.

The 30-year-old winger could end another season in the Egyptian capital with a big trophy haul.

The Red Devils have already captured Egyptian Super Cup honours in 2023/24, and the record African giants once again find themselves in the final of the CAF Champions League.

While the Witbank native spearheaded the Ahly attack last season on their way to winning four major trophies, in this campaign the Bafana Bafana international has not enjoyed the same prominence, and this comes at a time when discussions over a new deal are underway.

Tau's current contracts runs until the end of next season, and while it is believed that the 43-time Egyptian Premier League winners have already initiated discussions over a renewal, there seems to be a lack of progression pertaining to an agreement being reached.

The situation has seemingly caused angst among the chiefs at the El-Tetsh Stadium, and according to WTS Kora, should Tau's representatives and the Club of the Century fail to negotiate a new contract, then they advocate that the 2023 CAF Men's Interclub Player of the Year should be sold at the end of the season.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion man has struggled to reach the heights he did last season, with the injury he sustained during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations further derailing his campaign, although he has since returned to action for his club side.

If Tau is to stay at Ahly for the remainder of his existing deal, he would be free to negotiate a move to any team of his choosing from January 2025, a situation the north Africans are keen to avoid as they would not receive any compensation for his departure as a free agent.
