Wits explain why home game will be played in KZN

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits have confirmed that their home game against Orlando Pirates, scheduled for later this month, will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The two Gauteng clubs were set to lock horns at the Bidvest Stadium in a Premiership fixture on September 21.

However, according to Wits director of football Roy Limongelli, their home venue will be undergoing some renovations and therefore the decision was taken for the match to be played in a different province.

Limongelli explained to KickOff: "There are some renovations that have to be done at Bidvest Stadium before we can host the big teams there.

"Smaller crowds are okay, but renovations have to be done for bigger crowds, the club said."

"The renovations haven't been done as yet, so until that is sorted we can't play any of Sundowns, Pirates or Chiefs there.

"We did put it out there [that Wits needed a new venue] and Moses Mabhida Stadium gave us the best option."
