Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Virgil Vries says he is hoping to learn from his experience at the Soweto giants as he looks to get his career back on track with Swallows FC in the First Division.

Vries joined Amakhosi as a back-up for Itumeleng Khune after he picked up a long-term injury, but things did not go according to plan as the Namibian shot-stopper was involved in some high-profile errors.

The 30-year-old Vries was released by Chiefs before the current season and the keeper signed a deal with Swallows in the GladAfrica Championship.

Vries said, according to KickOff: "I won't say it's a step back for my career, everything is a work-in-progress, you can learn here and get better.

"It all about mindset as a player on how you take it.

"I'm happy to be here at Swallows and for me to contribute, and that is the most important thing for me right now.

"I don't want to talk about Chiefs because now I'm with Swallows. I just want to forget about it, what happened at Chiefs is the past.

"I don't have anything to prove to anyone, people know the goalkeeper I am and that is why I was at Kaizer Chiefs. It's part of the game and that's how you learn."
