Motshwari: 'It was difficult, very tactical'

Cape Town - Midfielder Ben Motshwari admitted that Kaizer Chiefs' tactics made it hard for Orlando Pirates to exploit the space in the final third of the pitch, but felt the Soweto derby was a good contest nonetheless.

Motshwari was a key player for the Buccaneers on Saturday as they rallied from behind to clinch a 1-1 draw at FNB Stadium, with his performance earning him the Man of the Match award.

Daniel Cardoso fired Amakhosi in front from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute, before Thembinkosi Lorch converted with ten minutes remaining to ensure a nervy finish to the match.

And, Motshwari felt Pirates created more than enough chances in the first half, while he also conceded he should have been more clinical in front of goal.

"It was a very tactical game, inasmuch as we wanted to win and chase the [leading] pack at the top but it was difficult, very tactical," he told SuperSport TV.

"[In] the first half we created so many chances, we should have buried them, even myself I should have scored but it was unfortunate. We had to chase the game and managed to score. We’re not happy or satisfied with a point but we'll take it."

Motshwari added: "For most of the guys is a new experience, it was the first time playing in a derby, for me it was a second time.

"So it's always difficult, but as a group the spirit is there. We're still young and learning, we want to go forward, hopefully we will achieve what we want."
