Khumalo still ambitious despite Wits release

Cape Town - Former Bafana Bafana skipper Bongani Khumalo believes he has plenty of years left playing the game despite being released by Wits at the end of 2017/18 season.

The well-traveled defender, who signed for Tottenham Hotspur in 2011 but never made an official first team appearance, made 16 Premiership starts last season for the Clever Boys.

However, the 2016/17 champions struggled for form and it seems the Gavin Hunt-coached outfit are now re-building the squad with Khumalo deemed surplus to requirements.

Nonetheless, the 31-year-old takes the view that he still has plenty to offer as he is at the peak of his powers as a centre-back.

Speaking to TimesLIVE website, he said: "I am still hungry and desperate to achieve things. I still think I have a good few years left in me.

"In fact‚ at my age these should be the best years for a centre-back. I am very much keeping an open mind about my options and looking for a club that has vision and a good idea of where they see themselves in the future.

"In terms of where that club is situated‚ that is probably the least important thing for me because I have always moved around a lot in my career.

"I have gone through some difficult times in my career‚ both at home and abroad‚ and I feel like this is the best time to share that.

"One of the most challenging things in football is the ability to adapt to different environments. That might be hard for people to understand‚ but it is a real issue‚ especially for young players."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
