Highlands Park issue vote of confidence to Da Gama

Cape Town - Highlands Park have issued a vote of confidence to Owen da Gama after reports that the Lions of the North manager's job was unsafe.

The speculation surrounding Da Gama's future surfaced after his side lost 4-1 to Stellenbosch FC off the back of a 3-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs.

But Highlands have moved quickly to reiterate their support for their head coach.

"Highlands Park FC would like to refute, dismiss and further straighten the record on statements made regarding the apparent resignation of our coach Mr Owen da Gama," read an official press release from the Lions of the North.

"We've been inundated with calls and messages seeking clarity on the coach's whereabouts.

"Club director and shareholder Sinky Mnisi has given clarity on the matter saying club management fully supports Da Gama in his vision for the club and reiterated management’s support for his technical team and above all Da Gama in his capacity as head coach of Highlands Park.

"We are fully behind the coach, his vision for the team, the entire technical team and are confident of his turnaround strategy that he’s working on to redeem the club in the next coming matches.

"Mnisi says the team takes collective responsibility for all that has transpired and is currently hard at work to look to redeem itself and appease supporters starting with the match against Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium this weekend."

Da Gama led Park to a seventh-placed finish last season in their maiden PSL campaign and guided them to the final of the MTN8 this campaign while they currently occupy eighth position in the Absa Premiership standings.
