February disappointed after no promotion in May for Ajax CT

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper Jody February says the club are gutted as a whole after failing to secure promotion from the National First Division in 2018/19.

Ajax won 2-0 on Sunday, May 5 against Mbombela United, however, it wasn't enough to qualify for the promotional playoff spot as the Urban Warriors finished in fourth on goal difference - a goal short of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in third position.

Recent reports have suggested the side from the Mother City are considering buying an Absa Premiership franchise in order to return to South Africa's top flight.

Nonetheless, February expressed his disappointment at failing to win promotion.

He told KickOff website: "It wasn't meant to be that way.

"We can stay to the fact that we've done our best. We can't push ourselves beyond this, this is our best.

"We scored and we didn't concede [against Mbombela], we've done our best. There's nothing else we could have done. There could be a problem, but you can't fault the guys for the effort.

"We were obviously sad, disappointed in the fact that we couldn't at least get a play-offs spot.

"On Sunday we couldn't discuss anything after the game, we just got upset and drove back home. It was a long way from Nelspruit to Joburg.

When asked if he would turn down an offer from another PSL side next season, he concluded: "Well yeah, but I'm still contracted to the club, and whatever happens I have to honour my contract.

"So, I have to stay there. We don't have a choice, we have to go back there next season and fight again because we belong in the PSL. It just wasn't meant to be my man."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
