Doc warns Baccus: No 15 jersey doesn't come cheap

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has warned Kearyn Baccus that wearing the number 15 jersey comes with great responsibility.

Khumalo attained god-like status in the number 15 shirt for the Amakhosi during an illustrious playing career.

Baccus, who is Durban-born, has impressed since arriving from Melbourne City in the off-season and is similar to Khumalo in many ways with his assuredness in possession and passing.

Baccus is currently wearing number six as the number 15 jersey has been retired in honour of the 'Doctor'.

But the 28-year-old has done his hopes of bringing the coveted shirt out of retirement no harm with some impressive performances in the centre of the park for the Amakhosi.

"He should know that what he's going to be wearing is not a child's play. That jersey is something that Amakhosi faithful loved and cherish," said Khumalo.

"He should also know that he’ll be wearing a gold mine. That jersey doesn't come cheap."

Khumalo then turned his attention to the subject of coaching and admitted that he misses the dugout.

The former Columbus Crew midfielder has not coached in the PSL since departing Baroka at the end of the 2017/2018 season.

"Well, I do miss coaching because I went to school for it and also played the game," Khumalo told Daily Sun.

"It doesn't really matter, for me if any team comes with a concrete offer. I'm in. About my return to the topflight, my agent and I will make an announcement soon."

The former Bafana midfielder, who made 50 caps for his country, also outlined his plans to open a football academy next January.

"At the moment, I'm busy with preparations for a tournament to be held in Soweto in December," revealed the 52-year-old.

"Next year January, I’m also planning to launch an academy to cater for the Under-6s to Under-9s."
