Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs moved to within five points of the Absa Premiership summit after coming from behind to beat Polokwane City 2-1 at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts began brightly with Wiseman Meyiwa testing Polokwane keeper George Chigova with a dipping shot from the edge of the box before he sent a volley over the bar.

But it was Rise and Shine who drew first blood when Walter Musona smashed in a sensational free-kick right into the top corner from 40-yards out.

Musona could have added another goal a minute later, but a heavy touch allowed Itumeleng Khune to come off his line and make a brave and important block.

Having regained their composure, Amakhosi came storming back and earned a corner when Chigova blocked Siphiwe Tshabalala's powerful effort with his feet.

Tshabalala took the set-piece and curled the ball into the near-post region where Ryan Moon timed his run to perfection to glance the ball into goal off his head.

The Soweto giants had another chance three minutes later but Tshabalala couldn't stretch enough to get decent contact on a Philani Zulu cross.

The Glamour Boys also started the second half with purpose and Teenage Hadebe twice sent headers over the bar from corners.

Polokwane, though, had the ball in the back of the net in the 58th minute, but Rendani Ndou was correctly ruled offside.

Instead it was Chiefs who were to score next, Dumisani Zuma putting them ahead 25 minutes from time for what was to be the winner when he converted clinically from a Joseph Molangoane cross.

The closing minutes of the match were tense as Rise and Shine gave their all to try and find an equaliser.

However, some resolute defending from Amakhosi enabled them to close out the game and move to within five points of pace-setters Mamelodi Sundowns.
