Mali sloppily give the ball away in midfield and Bafana pass it around patiently. Erasmus has no time to waste, though — he wants a goal in front of his home fans. He tries from range, but misses the target.
Mali make a late substitution as Haidara makes way. Perhaps they're looking for a more attacking approach.
FULL-TIME: SOUTH AFRICA 2-1 MALI. Mokeke goes for goal from long range after a well-worked move, but he misses the target. That's the end of the game. Ntseki has a win in his first fixture. Bafana Bafana win the Nelson Mandela Challenge.
South Africa are running the clock down and holding onto the ball. The home crowd is loving it. Furman eventually looks for the aerial ball, which is headed away.
Morena is released on the right and he looks to square the ball for a teammate. The goalkeeper intercepts.
Koita goes for goal from a Mali free-kick, but it hits the wall and Erasmus is away in a flash. He looks to initiate the counter and performs some lovely trickery on the ball before passing to Zwane. Eventually, the move breaks down.
Mali are heaping pressure on South Africa, but Bafana are doing well to cling on. Mathoho makes a fine last-ditch challenge to prevent Koita from having a shot at Keet one-on-one.
Furman goes for goal from long range, but he can't grab a second goal as his effort goes well off target.
Tandia is on in place of Hadi Sacko for Mali, while Erasmus is on for Grobler for the hosts. Erasmus is a Port Elizabeth local and gets a huge cheer.
GOAL, MALI, SEKOU KOITA! 2-1: Koita rifles a low shot past Keet after playing a lovely one-two off Amadou Haidara, having received the initial pass from Mohamed Camara.
Superb from Phiri as he cuts inside from the right and does superbly well to hang onto possession. He plays a one-two off Zwane and goes for goal on the edge of the box, but his shot is blocked.
Mosa Lebusa comes on in place of Thembinkosi Lorch. This is likely a sign that Molefi Ntseki is looking to tighten up.
As we approach the last 20 minutes, Molefi Ntseki will be fairly happy with what he has seen so far. It seems his players are eager to impress him. It must be noted that this Mali squad contains only about half of their AFCON contingent.
Mali go for another long-range effort, but it's skied. Well off target. The visitors have had 60% of the second half possession, but they haven't made it count.
Mokeke comes on to replace Mokotjo for Bafana Bafana. In addition, Phiri replaces Serero.
Mali make a substitution too, with Mohamed Camara replacing Cheick Doucouré.
Mali go for the long range shot, opting for placement over power. Not a bad effort, but it curls wide of the target.
Lorch and Serero link up down Bafana's left, but a poor pass from Lorch halts Bafana's momentum. They keep the play alive, though. Zwane indulges in a little bit of showboating. South Africa are enjoying themselves and playing with Mzansi flair.
CHANCE! Clever play from South Africa as Zwane is released on the right by a fine pass. He times his run perfectly and crosses for Grobler, who meets the ball with his head, but can't steer it on target!
Keet's clearance is charged down, but the ball goes behind, safely out of play.
Mali have had their chances in today's match, but Bafana have taken theirs and that's what counts.
DANGER! Mali flash the ball across the face of goal from their right flank, but there's nobody there to get the finishing touch! What an opportunity that was!
Morena bombs forward again down Bafana's right flank, but he's flagged offside.
Maela goes down after a late tackle, but he appears to make peace with Amadou Haidara immediately afterwards.
Amadou Haidara looks to get the cross in from Mali's right after they string together another rapid passing move, but the ball in is headed away.
Lorch spots a team-mate in space in a dangerous area. Good vision, but the execution of the pass isn't ideal and Bafana Bafana lose momentum.
Mali look to catch South Africa out at the near post, but the ball in from the visitors' left is turned behind for a Keet goal-kick.
KICK-OFF! Mali get the action back underway at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Bafana have brought Keet on for Williams.

GOAL, SOUTH AFRICA, ZWANE! 2-0: The substitute strikes! Lorch receives the pass from the right wing, and with his first touch, he tees Zwane up for the finish! Cool, calm, collected strike. The pass deserves credit. Lorch has struggled lately.
HALF-TIME: SOUTH AFRICA 2-0 MALI: Bafana Bafana go into the break in front. They haven't exactly been dominant, but they've been clinical. Molefi Ntseki's men deserve credit for that. Goals have come from Furman and Zwane.
Mokotjo passes to Serero, who feeds Lorch. The Orlando Pirates man pulls back from near the byline on Bafana's left, but he plays the ball too deep for anybody in the danger area to capitalise.
Frustrating for Dolly as he is forced to come off early due to the injury he picked up minutes ago, with Zwane his replacement.
Amadou Haidara looks for the ball into the danger area from deep, but it's intercepted.
Dolly is receiving medical attention. It appears as though his foot was caught by an opponent's studs in the air.
Mali look to sneak in a chance again, but Williams is alert and makes the save, holding onto the effort at the near post.
CHANCE! Serero picks out Grobler with a great long pass. The Mali defence is onto him and the ball bounces awkwardly, but he goes for an audacious overhead effort! It doesn't quite come off, but one can't fault the effort.
Cheeky from Lorch! Grobler wins the ball in midfield and passes to the Orlando Pirates man, who goes for an audacious long-range shot. He doesn't catch the ball cleanly at all, though, and it would have been difficult to score there anyway.
Chance at the back post for Mali, but they're unable to make clean contact with the ball in. South Africa look to counter initially, but then they slow the game down.
South Africa give possession away too easily and now Mali look to build from the back.
Grobler takes a knock in the air and wins the free-kick for Bafana Bafana around the middle of the park.
DANGER! Morena loses the ball and Hlatshwayo is forced to scramble across and make a fine last-ditch challenge inside his penalty area. That's one error apiece on the ball from the Bafana full-backs. They need to be more careful.
GOAL, SOUTH AFRICA, FURMAN! 1-0: Furman sends the 'keeper the wrong way and buries the ball low in the corner. Bafana take the lead!
PENALTY, BAFANA! Thulani Serero makes his way into the penalty area as he's set up by Dolly. He's tripped and wins the spot-kick!
CHANCE! A block from Bafana gets in the way of a close-range Mali shot. Williams spills the ball from the ensuing corner, but gets the free-kick.
Dolly once again looks to dribble his way through, but Mali manage to dispossess him again. They look to hit South Africa on the counter, squaring the ball in from their right flank, but Hlatshwayo makes a captain's clearance.
The South African full-backs are carrying the ball forward early on. Both Maela and Morena have looked dangerous going forward, but they need to be wary of the Mali counter.
Williams comes a long way out as he looks to intercept an Amadou Haidara pass. It almost backfires, but he just gets to the ball in time to scramble it out!
The cross from the left finds the head of Bradley Grobler, but he doesn't connect cleanly and can't cause any problems for the 'keeper with that.
South Africa have been piling on the pressure lately, but there still haven't been many clear-cut chances at either end. Mali have come closest to scoring out of these two teams.
Bafana cross in from the left, but Mali deal with it. However, South Africa come back at them from the opposite side, working the ball to Grobler, who goes for goal, but doesn't strike sweetly, pushing a low shot wide.
SAVE! Ronwen Williams is forced into a fine stop from a long-range effort as he flies through the air to tip the ball behind for a corner. He's then tested again as the ball is worked to the far post, but holds onto the shot.
Maela is dispossessed and Mali have a chance on the break, but Mathoho recovers well to make the tackle.
Bafana are targeting Mali on the break early on, but they haven't really got one going yet. Dolly runs into traffic this time.
Furman does well to win the ball and Bafana look to launch a counter-attack. However, a poor pass in the middle of the park halts their progress.
It's the first game under new Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki and he will be relatively happy with what he's seen in the opening few minutes.
Bafana Bafana are applying the pressure early on. Grobler is up for this and he's chasing down defenders, trying to make their lives difficult on the ball.
