Banyana to play No 1-ranked USA in preparation for Women's World Cup

Cape Town - The South African Football Association (SAFA) confirmed on Thursday, that they will ensure that Banyana Banyana receives the correct preparation leading into the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.

SAFA has announced an agreement, together with the United States Soccer Federation, of an international friendly involving the two world cup qualified teams.

The match will take place on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California home to the San Francisco 49ers.

The USA match is the latest in a series of international friendlies lined up for Desiree Ellis' side who are one of three African sides set to take part in next year's football showpiece.

Banyana are scheduled to play a top World Cup qualified team from Europe on January 19, 2019 at Cape Town Stadium and three days later host Sweden (another World Cup qualified team) at the same venue on January 22.

They will also play a closed-door training match against Sweden on January 19, as part of their World Cup preparations.

The FIFA Women's World Cup draw will take place this Saturday, December 8 with Ellis having jetted off to France on Thursday - where she will be joined by SAFA President Danny Jordaan.
