Wales' Priestland to leave Bath at season's end

London, Jan 8, 2019 (AFP) -Wales flyhalf Rhys Priestland will leave Bath at the end of the season, the English Premiership club announced on Tuesday.

Priestland, who won the last of his 50 Wales caps in 2017, has been with Bath for the past four years.

"Rhys has been an influential figure not only on the field, but in his leadership off the field over the last four years," Bath rugby director Todd Blackadder told the club's website.

"There is still a lot of rugby to play between now and the end of the season, and I have no doubt he will play a key role in the next six months."

Wales coach Warren Gatland has made clear his preference for selecting players with Welsh regional clubs when it comes to international matches -- a policy which could hamper Priestland's chances of playing at this year's World Cup in Japan, which runs from September 20 to November 2.

Priestland, who has only recently returned from injury, told the Somersetlive website: "I haven't got a clue what's going to happen with me next year. I've just got to try to enjoy the rest of my time here and see what happens from there."

The 31-year-old added: "I feel fit. As you get older people start question whether you are injury prone.

"Hopefully, I can put a run of games together now and then put those sort of questions to bed."
