De Bruin happy with Kriel's recovery process

Cape Town - Lions and Springbok flank Jaco Kriel is making good progress recovering from a shoulder injury, Lions coach Swys de Bruin has said.

Kriel went under the knife in September last year when he injured his shoulder in the Springboks’ 23-all Rugby Championship draw against Australia in Perth.

At the time it was said he would be sidelined for six months.

“Jaco is very important to us. He is the team’s rock. He is recovering well from his shoulder injury,” De Bruin told Netwerk24.

“He is a guy that recovers faster than the normal player. However, it’s tough to say whether we’ll have him ready for the first two (Super Rugby) games.”

The Lions open their Super Rugby campaign at home against the Sharks on February 17.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
