Nonkontwana told the Bulls' official website that he wanted to test himself against European clubs and broaden his horizons.

When probed on the biggest differences between Super Rugby and the PRO14, Nonkontwana responded: "I think the two biggest differences must be the wet conditions and the amount of travelling due to most teams in the competition being based in Europe."

He also explained how the Cheetahs adapted to the vastly different conditions and how it impacted their training.

"I think we stayed true to how we wanted to play which was to not try to change too much week to week. This meant our training didn't change much, but more focus was required as players and obviously if conditions were extremely wet we'd be forced into shorter passes, direct play and contestable kicking plan."

But the 24-year-old said he was happy to return to Super Rugby.

"I just feel there's more excitement in Super Rugby and I felt in shaping my career going forward, I needed to play in this competition."

The Super Rugby competition has been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, while the PRO14 was on Thursday suspended indefinitely.
