FULL TIME! 31-20. The Brumbies come out victorious in Canberra. The Lions started both halves well and ended the second very well, but they come up short. The Brumbies return to winning ways while their visitors today embark on a tough two week tour of New Zealand.
Brumbies win a penalty on their own 22 after destroying the Lions scrum. Great work as the Lions search for a losing bonus point.
Lions are pushing for a try and run from within their own 22. Dyantyi starts it off with a strong run before Mapoe continues the the momentum as they pass the halfway line, but a knock on just outside the 22 of the Brumbies spoils all the good work.
Kuridrani makes a great break down the right hand touchline but the offload is knocked on when it should have been an easy score. Brumbies lost their bonus point with the last try of the Lions and will need one of their own to get it back.
The conversion is missed by Jantjies from out wide.
TRY! LIONS! MAHUZA! 31-20. The Lions score from the scrum as the ball goes wide and Mahuza has an easy finish.
Great attack by the Lions which ends in a penalty 10 meters from the line. Lions opt for a scrum. It was a 13 phase move that led to the penalty in which Marx had three very good carries.
Wright with another good run but his kick ahead goes directly into touch.
Jantjies this time tries to get too much distance from a penalty and the ball goes dead. Poor from the Springbok 10.
Lions are trying to hit back but the Brumbies defence is good inside their own half. They force a turnover and kick it back but Coetzee finds a great touch. The visitors will need points soon if they want to get back into this.
CONVERSION! BRUMBIES! LEALIIFANO! 31-15. This time Lealiifano gets the two extras.
TRY! BRUMBIES! WRIGHT! 29-15. Wright scores a very good individual try. A ruck just outside the 22 of the Lions and the ball finds its way to Wright you dummies and beats the first line of defence and then the second to score.
The conversion attempt from Lealiifano is well wide.
TRY! BRUMBIES! BANKS! 24-15. From a scrum inside the Lions 22 Lealiifano takes it at first receives and break to with a meter of the line. That is followed by 6 phases of good defence but eventually the Lions run out of defenders and a long pass from Lealiifano finds Banks to score 5 meters from touch.
Brumbies on attack and win a penalty in front of the posts but Wrights decides to take a quick tap before the Lions knock it on in the tackle. The hosts really should have taken the 3 points there.
CONVERSION! LIONS! JANTJIES! 19-5. Jantjies coverts his own try.
TRY! LIONS! JANTJIES! 19-13. Jantjies takes it brilliantly. A short pass goes astray and Jantjies, at full pace, picks it up and bursts through a gap before beating Banks with a great step to dot down under the uprights.
Lions should really score but the inside offload doesn't go to hand which allows the Brumbies to clear. It was an open run-in had that offload gone to hand.
The Lions have a scrum on the halfway line, centre field. Good attacking position and win a penalty.
Lions being pinned back in their own half at the start of the second half but they have possession as they look to attack from deep, but they are forced into touch on the halfway line.
KICK OFF. 19-8. The second stanza is underway.
Lealiifano hits the uprights from the right hand touchline on this occasion to leave it at 19-8 as we head into the break.
HALF TIME! 19-8. The Lions started the game well with a Dyantyi try but have failed to get much possession and territory then. They have had a slight advantage in the set pieces but the Brumbies are finding far too much space in the outside channels and have scored 3 tries, all in the corners.
TRY! BRUMBIES! KURIDRANI! 19-8. Lions on attack on the 22 of their hosts but McCaffrey gets the turnover and the ball pops out to Fainga’a who hoofs the ball forward. The chase is good but Coetzee gets there first, however, a turnover is created again and Kuridrani has one defender to beat and he does.
The Brumbies errors are costing them dearly. They are finding good space in the outside channels as the Lions defence seems quite narrow, but they are allowing pressure relieving errors to creep into their game.
SO CLOSE! Arnold is just short of the Lions line but the visitors win a penalty at a crucial stage and clear towards their 10m line. Brumbies really should have scored.
The hosts are back on the attack after winning a penalty inside their own half and the ball is put into touch on the Lions 22m line.
CONVERSION! LEALIIFANO! 12-8. Another great kick from the left hand touchline.
TRY! BRUMBIES! PULU! 12-8. The game has come alive. The Brumbies take it through around 7 phases before a brilliant long pass by McCaffrey finds Pulu who finishes from 25 meters out with little space.
PENALTY! LIONS! JANTJIES! 7-8. Another scrum penalty and this time it is right in front of the uprights. Brumbies will be unhappy with their exit strategy.
CONVERSION! BRUMBIES! LEALIIFANO! 7-5. Great kick from the left hand touchline.
TRY! BRUMBIES! MCCAFFREY! 5-5. The Brumbies are over in the corner. It all started as Banks made a great break down the short side. He was tackled 5 meters from the tryline but McCaffrey gets over in the corner after a few phases.
The Lions put a few phases together around the halfway line but don't manage to gain any ground. Eventually they are taken into touch.
Very scrappy game thus far. The Brumbies lose their lineout and Lions clear. The hosts manage to hold onto the following lineout but then knock it on.
Brumbies win another scrum penalty and Banks this time puts it out 12 meters from the Lions line.

Brumbies on attack straight from the kick off and win a penalty in front of the uprights. However, they take the lineout option but Banks kicks it dead. What a mistake and relief for the visitors.

TRY! LIONS! DYANTYI! 0-5. With the Brumbies down a man the Lions opt for a succession of lineouts before Dyantyi finds space between two Brumbies defenders and speeds through from 10 meters out.
YELLOW CARD! Penalty win a penalty right in front of the uprights but they are going up to the TMO first for a tip tackle - Tom Wright is the guilty party and he is in the bin for 10 minutes.

The Brumbies are boosted this week with the return of four Aussie internationals in Sam Carter, Rory Arnold, Folau Fainga’a and Scott Sio. This should add much needed quality and bulk to a Brumbies pack that was bossed against the Crusaders last week.
The Lions have also rung the changes for their first game on the Australasian tour. Franco Naude comes in at 12 with Lionel Mapoe moved to his preferred position at 13. Aphiwe Dyantyi returns to his left wing position while Ruan Combrinck has come in on the opposite wing.
The Lions have won their last two encounters against the Brumbies - last season in Johannesburg and in 2017 they got over the line in Canberra. The Lions only other win in Canberra came in 2011.
The Brumbies have led at halftime in 6 of their last 8 encounters but have only won 3 of those games.
Brumbies hooker, Folau Fainga’a has scored 6 tries this season and sits among the top try scorers this season.
The Lions form has not been up to its usual standard this season, and have conceded 58 points first half points in their last 3 games while only scoring 17.
Both teams come into this match with crushing defeats behind them. The Brumbies went down 36-14 away to the Crusaders while the Lions suffered a surprise 42-5 hammering at home to the Sharks.
